Biographical Data
Vesna Tovstonogov was born and raised in a bilingual family in Subotica, Yugoslavia (former), close to the Hungarian border. She has lived in different cities in her homeland and St.Petersburg (Russia) before moving to Canada in 2003.
After finishing studies at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade, she works in various theatres and on TV as a producer, artistic manager, assistant director, and costume designer. At the same time, she applies her fluency in Russian, English, Hungarian, and Serbo-Croatian to work as a simultaneous translator of live theatre performances, movie projections, arts events, and literature evenings and as a court interpreter.
Her published translations include a number of arts, marketing, and management books and book chapters, dramas, musicals, movie scripts, short stories, essays, and studies.She is the author of essays about artists such as Andrey Tarkovsky, review of history of literature, theatre, cinema, and architecture in Georgian Republic, analyses of Yugoslavian poets, short stories, the children's musical Pinocchio, and the radio monodrama in 3 episodes Whispers from the Pillow.
