Biographical Data Born in Peterborough, Ontario, Agnes Whitfield taught Quebec literature and translation for ten years at Queen's University, before joining the School of Translation at Glendon College (York University) in 1990. A long-time contributor to Lettres québécoises (section: études littéraires), she has published numerous articles on contemporary Quebec fiction. She is the author of Le je(u)illocutoire, Forme et contestation dans le roman québécois contemporain and editor (with Annette Hayward) of Critique et littérature québécoise, and La nouvelle: écriture(s) et lecture(s) (with Jacques Cotnam). Her translation Divine Diva was shortlisted for the 1992 Governor General's Award. More recently she has ventured into creative writing, with a book of poetry ô chère Émile je t'aime ou l'heureuse mort d'une Gorgone anglaise racontée par sa fille (le Nordir: 1993) which bears the ironic generic designation of "traduction sans original."
