Julia Jones and Maude Deschênes-Pradet check in from the Maison de la littérature in beautiful Québec City to catch us up on the first week of their translation residency. Novelist Deschênes-Pradet acquaints us with 10-year-old orphan Ren, one of the many compelling characters from her 2017 novel Hivernage (Éditions XYZ), while translator Jones, who is freshly graduated from Concordia University‘s master’s program in translation, expresses gratitude and excitement for having the opportunity to visit some of the sites described in the novel. The two-week residency wraps up this Friday with a closing event where both women, moderated by Sonya Malaborza, will read from their work and discuss the ins and outs of their collaboration.
