Debbie Blythe is a Montréal-based translator. She completed a Master's degree in French literature at the University of British Columbia (1985) before doing a Master's degree in translation at Université de Montréal (1991), where her thesis topic was a comparative study of the major translations of Victor Hugo’s Les Misérables. Debbie has been a freelance translator for over twenty years, serving a wide range of clients, while at the same time teaching advanced French-English translation, literary translation, and writing techniques for translators at McGill University in Montréal, Quebec. In 2008, she served as critical reader for the third edition of Garner’s Modern American Usage (Oxford University Press, 2009), and in 2009, as juror for the Quebec Writers’ Federation Awards (English translation). Meticulous and detail oriented, Debbie enjoys translating texts that require creativity, excellent writing skills, and careful research. Her latest project, Turkey and the Armenian Ghost: On the Trail of the Genocide, a non fiction account of the aftermath of the Armenian genocide, was published by McGill Queen’s University Press. In November 2015, Debbie was awarded the QWF's Cole Foundation Prize for Translation.
