A native of Saskatchewan, Sheila Fischman was educated in Toronto, where she worked in publishing before moving to Quebec. A co-founder of the periodical Ellipse: Œuvres en traduction/Writers in Translation and a founding member of the LTAC, she has also been a columnist for the Toronto Globe and Mail and the Montreal Gazette, a broadcaster with CBC Radio, and was literary editor of the Montreal Star. She now devotes herself full time to literary translation, specializing in novels and short stories. Her list of translations from the French includes nearly 150 books, as well as Roland Lepage's classic play Le Temps d'une vie (commissioned by the Tarragon Theatre in Toronto) and a number of works for film and television.
