John Woodsworth (LTAC) and Arkadi Klioutchanski to Receive MLA Prize

The Modern Language Association will award the Lois Roth Award to John Woodsworth and Arkadi Klioutchanski for their translation of Sofia Andreevna Tolstaya's My Life; Jonathan Tittler will receive honorable mention for his translation of Manuel Zapata Olivella's Changó, the Biggest Badass.

Lazer Lederhendler, Winner of the Cole Foundation Prize for Translation (QWF)

The Cole Foundation Prize for Translation (QWF) was awarded this year to Lazer Lederhendler (LTAC) for Apocalypse for Beginners (Knopf Canada; Vintage Canada), a translation of Nicolas Dickner’sTarmac (Éditions Alto). The jury described it as a “seamless rendering of Dickner's quirky, yet approachable style.” This is the second time Lederhendler has won a QWF prize for translating Dickner’s work. He won in 2009 for Nikolski.

Nora has gone
out to sea
to seek a place to rest her precious soul
She has left softly, in no pain.
