In January, a group of experienced translators, including President Phyllis Aronoff, began meeting regularly to address our rapidly deteriorating situation with regard to residual rights, cover credit, publicity credit, late or incomplete payment, lack of recognition in the press, ''virtual publishing'' etc., first by collecting information, then by attempting to work with journalists, publishers, authors, fellow translators, plus the CCA, SODEC and other agencies. Of particular concern is that newer translators may not fully realize the broader realities and find themselves stuck with a fait accompli. Anyone wishing to work with us is welcome to make contact at the e-mail address below. We are also interested in obtaining a list of problems encountered by our colleagues. While we cannot engage in specific cases, we do need to develop as complete a picture as possible of the problems we face and the particular publishers and media concerned.
