Meri Rochelle Buettner
Translation of Annie Molin Vasseur's poem "Mémoires océanes"
Ocean memories
(excerpts)
Me conch or lugger
oyster spat drifting
in open waters ab origine
aground to rock
locking ivory in
mother of pearl to all Japans.
I
perpetual ocean
universal recollection
am the little pearl
an iridescent belly
the cradle of humanity.
Like a tipped boat
sucking water from some wound
gaping I loll
winkle and parasites plenty
petrified forever
in my roving shell
with stowed scull
and barren belly.
Sea bed carving
I cull calcic tears
and urge memory on.
