Translation of Annie Molin Vasseur's poem "Mémoires océanes"

Ocean Memories

Extracts

Me, conch or craft
oyster drifting in larvae
off the coast of my origin
I founder on the rocks
paralyzing the inner ivory
nacre of all Japans.

I
fathomless ocean
universal memory
am the little pearl
in an iridescent womb
cradle of humanity.

Like a beached boat
that leaks through some wound
exposed I lie
periwinkles and parasites
trapped for eternity
in my navigator shell
with oars secured
to an abandoned hull.

Seabed sculpture
I distill chalky tears
and urge memory to move on.
