The selected candidates published their first book-length translations into French or English between July 1st, 2018 and June 30th, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The three finalists are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jonathan Lamy from Montr\u00e9al (Qu\u00e9bec), for <em>Pour l&#8217;amour du multilinguisme<\/em> (<a href=\"http:\/\/memoiredencrier.com\/pour-lamour-du-multilinguisme-une-histoire-dune-monstrueuse-extravagance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">M\u00e9moire d\u2019encrier<\/a>) his translation of Tomson Highway\u2019s <em>A Tale of Monstrous Extravagance: Imagining Multilingualism<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>R\u00e9mi Labrecque from Regina (Saskatchewan) for <em>Mes souliers me font mouri<\/em>r (<a href=\"http:\/\/test.lenoroit.com\/wordpress\/sarah-robyn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Les \u00c9ditions du Noro\u00eet<\/a>), his translation of <em>My Shoes Are Killing Me<\/em>, a collection of poems by Robyn Sarah<\/li>\n<li>Guil Lefebvre from Qu\u00e9bec City (Qu\u00e9bec), for <em>In Every Wave<\/em> (<a href=\"http:\/\/qcfiction.com\/?page_id=5871\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">QC Fiction<\/a>), his translation of <em>Mar\u00e9e montante<\/em>, by Charles Quimper.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each finalist will receive a one-year membership to LTAC and the winner will be awarded a prize of $1,000.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.attlc-ltac.org\/en\/translator\/feldsteinpeter-en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Peter Feldstein<\/a> chaired a selection committee of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.attlc-ltac.org\/en\/translator\/phyllis-aronoff-en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Phyllis Aronoff<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.attlc-ltac.org\/en\/translator\/renee-von-paschen-en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ren\u00e9e Von Paschen<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.attlc-ltac.org\/en\/translator\/sauline-letendre-en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sauline Letendre<\/a>, distinguished literary translators and full members of the association. The jury considered thirteen eligible submissions, including works of non-fiction, novels, and poetry collections, translated from French into English, and from English into French.<\/p>\n<p>LTAC will award the prize to the winner at our annual John Glassco Gala on Saturday, September 21st at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jmcanada.ca\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maison des Jeunesses musicales du Canada<\/a> (305 Mount-Royal East, Montreal). The gala\u2019s master of ceremonies will be multi-talented artist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.attlc-ltac.org\/en\/translator\/egocatherine-en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Catherine Ego<\/a>, and she will be accompanied by guitarist and composer <a href=\"http:\/\/arturoparra.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Arturo Parra<\/a>. We shall also take the opportunity to honour our members\u2019 accomplishments in 2018-2019, and to celebrate Canadian literary translators who have excelled at the national and international level over the past year. The event, which will run from 6 pm to 9 pm, is free of charge and is open to the public.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the John Glassco Translation Prize<\/strong><br \/>\nThe John Glassco Translation Prize has been awarded by LTAC since 1982 in celebration of St. Jerome, the patron saint of translators. The prize is named after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca\/en\/article\/glassco-john\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John Glassco<\/a>, a well-known writer and translator whose works include the English translation of the journals and complete poems of Saint-Denys Garneau. The prize is bestowed on a translator whose first book-length translation in French or English (novel, short story, poetry, essay, children\u2019s literature, play) stands out for its literary merits and precision. Over thirty translators, many of whom are still very active in the field, have been awarded the prize over the years.
