The AfterWords Literary Festival<\/em> and the Literary Translators\u2019 Association of Canada<\/em> are jointly presenting a bilingual conversation between award-winning Nova Scotian playwright Daniel MacIvor and Jean-Philippe Ra\u00eeche, Moncton\u2019s poet laureate. Ra\u00eeche is currently translating MacIvor\u2019s play \u201cBest Brothers\u201d into French for the Th\u00e9\u00e2tre populaire d\u2019Acadie in Caraquet. The two writers will talk about their work, the challenges and rewards of translation, and more with Sonya Malaborza, of the Literary Translators\u2019 Association of Canada.<\/p>\n

This conversation, offered in both French and English, with subtitles in both languages, will be presented virtually from Halifax on Thursday, February 25 at 8pm. Tickets are available free of charge, with advance registration. The event will be webcast through Zoom.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is our first foray into presenting a bilingual event,\u201d says Ryan Turner, Festival co-executive director, \u201cand the process of pulling it together has been fascinating. Our counterparts at LTAC have been amazing to work with, and we\u2019re really thrilled to be able to reach audiences in both French and English.\u201d<\/p>\n

The conversation will be fully subtitled and captioned, and viewers can choose to watch it with French subtitles or English ones.<\/p>\n

“Accessibility has always been a priority for us,” says Festival co-executive director Stephanie Domet. \u201cSo, having the opportunity to first of all present a conversation between brilliant artists like Daniel and Jean-Philippe, and second of all to make it accessible in two languages and<\/em> to hearing impaired people just feels like such a win. We\u2019ll absolutely be looking for ways to bring more of this to the annual festival as well as our off-season events.\u201d<\/p>\n
