Bradford wins the 2023 John Glassco Translation Prize<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Montreal, November 2nd, 2023 \u2013 The Literary Translators\u2019 Association of Canada (LTAC) is pleased to announce that this year\u2019s John Glassco Literary Translation Prize was awarded to D.M. Bradford, a poet and translator based in Montreal.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Bradford\u2019s\u00a0House Within a House, a translation of Nicholas Dawson\u2019s\u00a0D\u00e9sormais, ma demeure, was published by Brick House. It was chosen from 11 first book-length translations into French or English published between July 1st, 2022 and June 30th, 2023.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">This year\u2019s jury was comprised of Sonya Malaborza (Chair), Luba Markovskaia and Simon Brown. All three are professional literary translators and full members of LTAC.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">According to the jury\u2019s citation, \u201cBradford\u2019s translation renders Dawson\u2019s prose with a marked poetic sensitivity without losing the source text\u2019s breath, nuances and complex heteroglossic interplay.\u201d Their work distinguished itself from three close competitors \u2013 Jennifer Henderson (Dalie Giroux,\u00a0The Eye of the Master, McGill-Queen\u2019s University Press), St\u00e9phane Martelly (Kaie Kellough,\u00a0\u00c9quateur magn\u00e9tique, Tryptique) and Marie C Scholl-Dimanche (Gord Hill,\u00a0500 ans de r\u00e9sistance autochtone, Prise de parole).<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">For their first book-length translation, D.M. Bradford was awarded $1,000 and a one-year membership.
