L\u2019Association des traducteurs et traductrices litt\u00e9raires du Canada (ATTLC) a annonc\u00e9 dimanche le nom de la laur\u00e9ate du 33 e prix John-Glassco. Il s\u2019agit de Catherine Leroux qui s\u2019est distingu\u00e9e parmi une vingtaine de candidatures pour sa traduction fran\u00e7aise du roman Us Conductors<\/em> de Sean Michaels, publi\u00e9e sous le titre Corps conducteurs<\/em> par les \u00c9ditions Alto. <\/p>\n

Le jury de 2017, pr\u00e9sid\u00e9 par Sonya Malaborza et compos\u00e9 de Peter Feldstein, Nouha Homad et Marie-Claude Plourde, tous membres de l\u2019ATTLC, a soulign\u00e9 la finesse, l\u2019intelligence et la justesse du travail effectu\u00e9 par Leroux. Selon le jury : \u00ab Cette derni\u00e8re a livr\u00e9 une traduction vivante dans laquelle abondent les belles trouvailles et o\u00f9 se d\u00e9ploie un vernaculaire soign\u00e9 et cr\u00e9dible d\u2019une autre \u00e9poque, celle de l\u2019univers semi-fictif dans lequel \u00e9volue L\u00e9on Th\u00e9r\u00e9mine. Sous la plume de Leroux, la partition qu\u2019a compos\u00e9e Sean Michaels est jou\u00e9e avec brio. \u00bb <\/p>\n

M\u00eame si Catherine Leroux se distingue ici pour la premi\u00e8re fois comme traductrice, elle est d\u00e9j\u00e0 bien connue dans le milieu litt\u00e9raire. Son premier roman, La marche en for\u00ea<\/em>t, a \u00e9t\u00e9 finaliste pour le Prix des libraires du Qu\u00e9bec alors que son plus r\u00e9cent, Madame Victoria<\/em>, a remport\u00e9 le prix Adrienne-Choquette. En outre, Le mur mitoyen<\/em> a re\u00e7u le prix France-Qu\u00e9bec et sa version anglaise sign\u00e9e par Lazer Lederhendler, The Party Wall<\/em>, a \u00e9t\u00e9 finaliste pour le prix Giller. Apr\u00e8s Corps conducteurs<\/em>, Catherine a traduit un roman de Mark Frutkin dont le titre fran\u00e7ais est Le saint patron des merveilles<\/em> qui para\u00eetra bient\u00f4t, et elle travaille actuellement \u00e0 la traduction de Do Not Say We Have Nothing<\/em> de Madeleine Thien.<\/p>\n

Catherine Leroux a re\u00e7u le prix John-Glassco, assorti d\u2019une bourse de 1 000 $ \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al \u00e0 l\u2019occasion du Festival international de la litt\u00e9rature<\/em> (FIL). On a profit\u00e9 de l\u2019occasion pour rendre hommage \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9crivain, po\u00e8te et traducteur canadien John Glassco et aux traducteurs litt\u00e9raires canadiens qui se sont d\u00e9marqu\u00e9s sur la sc\u00e8ne nationale et internationale au cours des deux derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es. <\/p>\n

Remis par l\u2019ATTLC depuis 1982 lors de la f\u00eate de saint J\u00e9r\u00f4me, patron des traducteurs, le prix John-Glassco porte le nom du c\u00e9l\u00e8bre \u00e9crivain et traducteur \u00e0 qui l\u2019on doit notamment la version anglaise du journal et des po\u00e9sies compl\u00e8tes de Saint-Denys Garneau. Ce prix est d\u00e9cern\u00e9 \u00e0 une premi\u00e8re traduction, vers le fran\u00e7ais ou l\u2019anglais, d\u2019une \u0153uvre litt\u00e9raire parue sous forme de livre (roman, nouvelles, po\u00e9sie, essai, litt\u00e9rature jeunesse, th\u00e9\u00e2tre) qui se d\u00e9marque par ses qualit\u00e9s et sa rigueur. Une trentaine de traducteurs, toujours actifs pour la plupart, ont m\u00e9rit\u00e9 ce prix depuis sa cr\u00e9ation. <\/p>\n
