About / Bio

Marina Allemano is a literary translator, scholar and writer. During her academic career, she taught Comparative Literature, Scandinavian Literature as well as Danish language. Her translations into English are primarily of contemporary Danish fiction and non-fiction (Karen Fastrup, Dorrit Willumsen, Hanne Marie Svendsen, Suzanne Brøgger), and her critical writing also focuses on contemporary Danish women writers. Three monographs written in Danish are dedicated to the writings of Suzanne Brøgger, Hanne Marie Svendsen and Dorrit Willumsen, respectively, while numerous articles about various Scandinavian literary topics are in English. In addition, she has been studying Italian for a decade, hoping to translate favourite poems by Alda Merini and Alfonso Gatto.
