About / Bio

Born in Damascus, Syria, Nouha Homad was brought up and lived in Europe, the Middle East and South America. She studied eighteenth-century and Medieval English and French literature at American University, Beirut, Lebanon; Paris III-Sorbonne Nouvelle, Paris, France; and University of Wales, Aberystwyth, UK. She also studied art history and painting at the Art Academy, London, England. She has taught literature and language at a number of universities and is a freelance translator, editor and writer. She has translated with Kama Abu-Deeb Pablo Neruda’s Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair (published 1986), co-authored and edited a three-volume interpretation of the Koran from Arabic into English (published in 1997), and translated Jorge Paolantonio’s novel from Argentine Spanish into English under the English title Ashes of Orchids (Jorge Pinto Publishing, New York, 2008). She came to Montreal in 1999.
