About / Bio
Born in New York City, Karen Simon moved to Montreal in the seventies, soon after receiving her doctorate in 17th French literature from Tufts University. She began teaching at Concordia University in 1983 and later at McGill in 2002. In both institutions she has taught translation and French as a second language. Her specialties are children’s literature and texts on contemporary art. She has translated almost twenty books from French to English of the Toopy and Binoo series published by Dominique et Compagnie. In 2010 she translated four books from Spanish to French of the Argentine series Gastón Ratón y Gastoncito (Max et Maxou), also for Dominique et Compagnie. Since 2010 she has been translating both children's and adult books for La courte échelle, Montreal.
