About / Bio
Born in Winnipeg, Paul Ruban is a French-language author, screenwriter and literary translator. Crevaison en corbillard, his debut collection of short stories, received the 2020 Trillium Book Award. He was a finalist for the 2022 John Glassco Prize for his translation of Coconut Dreams by Derek Mascarenhas. English translations of his writing have appeared in The Malahat Review and The New Quarterly. His Trillium-nominated novel Le parfum de la baleine was named one of the “eight must-reads” of 2023 by La Presse, and will be released in German in the Spring of 2025 (Aufbau Verlage). He splits his time between Canada and Germany.
