The ellipse editorial board is looking to fill the position of managing editor. This part-time position is offered by the Literary Translators’ Association of Canada (LTAC).

Job Description

Working with the Editor-In-Chief and the Editorial Board, the Managing Editor of ellipse manages the production of the magazine and coordinates tasks among all those involved in the preparation and production of two issues per year of ellipse. Most of the work of the Managing Editor is carried out remotely.

Managing Editor Responsibilities

  • Communication

The Managing Editor of ellipse answers emails and manages communication with contributors, editors, designers and the LTAC’s Coordinator, and translates between English and French copy (e.g. Calls for Papers).

  •  Meetings

The Managing editor coordinates the scheduling of Editorial Board meetings and keeps minutes of said meetings.

  • Digital ellipse

The Managing Editor manages online content, updates the magazine website, coordinates and liaises among freelance web designers, coders, server managers.

  • Print ellipse

The Managing Editor coordinates the work of graphic designers and printers.

  •  Budget

The Managing Editor updates the budget and oversees expenses, including payments to contributors, freelancers, etc.

  • Editorial

The Managing Editor assists with copywriting and copyediting.

Required skills

  • demonstrated advanced spoken and written proficiency in French and English
  • working knowledge of online platforms like WordPress and SEO concepts
  • ability in copywriting and copyediting in at least one of the two languages is an asset
  • ability to run schedules and maintain workflow
  • ability to multitask and maintain attention to detail


Ideal for freelancers, this position will be paid at $25 per hour, based on the time required to produce and publish two issues of the magazine per year, (approximately 5 hours per week for 30 weeks)
