Antonino Mazza, poet, recording artist, translator, and editor, was born in Calabria, Italy, and came to Canada in 1961. He studied at Carleton University, La Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa, and the University of Toronto. He has taught at the University of Ottawa and at Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario. As editor, he has been associated with Anthos (a magazine he co-founded in 1978), Vice Versa, and Gamut International. His poems, essays, and literary translations have appeared in numerous magazines, journals, and anthologies in Canada, the United States, Australia, and Italy. His spoken songs from the LP The Way I Remember It (Toronto: Trans-Verse Productions, 1988), also published in book form (Montreal: Guernica Editions, 1992), have been choreographed for dance, widely performed, and discussed in the context of North American ethnic literature and postmodernism. For his translation of Pasolini, Antonino Mazza won the 1992 Italo Calvino Prize from Columbia University.
