The Literary Translators Association of Canada (LTAC) is pleased to presend the third edition of the Literary Translation Residency in the Maritimes, to be held in Cap-Pelé, in southeastern New Brunswick, from June 7 to 15, 2025. 

The Literary Translation Residency in the Maritimes brings together translators from the Maritime provinces and the rest of Canada for nine days in the studios of Projet Borgitte, a seaside artist residency in Cap-Pelé, near Moncton (https://projetborgitte.ca/). The residency is intended as a space for exchange, dialogue, experimentation and mentoring between two or more translators from different backgrounds and levels of experience. In addition to providing a quiet and collegial (co-)working space, the residency includes an open house, a public rountdable, a field trip in the area, and a closing event. The dual purpose of the residency is to support members of the LTAC in the realization of their individual translation projects, and to promote exchanges and relationships between translators in the Maritimes and their peers elsewhere in Canada. 

The LTAC will provide successful applicants with accommodation on-site, travel assistance and funding (up to $600), and on-site support. 

Two applications will be accepted. One studio is reserved for a translator from the Maritime provinces; the second studio will be awarded to a translator from elsewhere in the country. The LTAC may accept applications from individuals or pairs (e.g., co-translators, or a translator and author pair).

ELIGIBILITY 

  • Participants must be members in good standing of the LTAC at the time of the residency. 
  • All literary translation (understood in the broadest sense) projects are eligible.  

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR THE APPLICATION 

  • A résumé, up to date 
  • A cover letter that includes a short biography (100-200 words), a summary of the intended translation project (300-400 words), and the goals you wish to achieve during the residency (200-300 words) 
  • In the case of a formal publication project, the permission to translate the work from the translation rights holder (the author and/or the publisher) and, if applicable, a publication contract or letter of intent from a publishing house
